Lieutenant Richard D. Black
Lieutenant Richard Black was raised in DeFuniak Springs. He graduated from Walton Senior High School
in 1991. He went on to attend Okaloosa Walton Community College
in Niceville, graduating in 1992 with an Associate of Science in Business Administration. Lieutenant Black attended Florida State University
where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Human Resources Management in 1994.
Lieutenant Black began working in retail, banking, and the mortgage industry before beginning his law enforcement career as a Police Officer in 1999 at the Valdosta Police Department in Georgia
. He moved back to DeFuniak Springs in 2001, where he began employment with the Walton County Sheriff's Office as a Sheriff's Deputy. He later worked as a Police Officer for the Valparaiso Police Department before becoming a Police Officer with the Office of the City Marshal, DeFuniak Springs Police in 2006. He was promoted to Master Police Officer in 2007 and promoted to Sergeant in 2008. Lieutenant Black was promoted to his current rank of Lieutenant and appointed as the Uniform Patrol Division Commander in 2009. Lieutenant Black was appointed to his current position as the Special Operations Division Commander in 2012.
