The Planning Department guides and coordinates the community development efforts of the private and public sectors to ensure that the whole of such efforts is directed towards the enhancement of DeFuniak Springs as a desirable place to live and work. As such, development proposals are reviewed against minimum standards as established in the Comprehensive Plan and the Land Development Code
with the goals of preservation of property values, conservation of the enviroment and the enhancement of the quality of life of residents and visitors.
The Planning Department provides direction and leadership in implementing the goals, objectives, and policies of the Comprehensive Plan as adopted by the City Council. The Department is also responsible for the orderly development of the City and the administration of various land use regulations, including the land development regulations, code enforcement and the historical preservation.
The Planning Department provides technical assistance and staff support to the Planning Board and coordinates all development review, including site plan approval, subdivision review, land use and zoning changes, and code enforcement activities.
