From 2016 to 2018, the Florida Division of Historical Resources provided $497,113 to support the City of DeFuniak Springs' efforts to restore and rehabilitate the historic Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood. This provided half the funding ultimately needed to complete the project. The City has applied for another $500,000. The Division has deemed the City's application as "eligible" for funding. A panel will now rank that application. The Division will then take that ranked list, provide to the Florida Secretary of State and request funding from the Florida Legislature for as many of the grant projects to which the Florida Legislature can appropriate funds in order of rank.
This grant will receive a higher score (and more likely to be funded) by the panel members reviewing all grants if there's a strong showing of community support in the audience for this project when this grant is being discussed. The panel will review this grant on Thursday, September 6, 2018, sometime between 9am and 11amam EST at the Florida Division of Historical Resources, Main Auditorium, 500 South Bronough Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32399. Citizens are encouraged (and needed) to participate. Caravan to leave City Hall Annex parking lot (35 US Highway 90 West, DeFuniak Springs) at 6:30 am CST. Complete form to let us know you plan to attend!
8/8/2018: Florida Division of Historical Resources has deemed the City's application "eligible" for funding. On September 6 & 7, 2018, a panel will review and rank this grant request among other qualified applications from throughout Florida.
