Garbage Pickup Rules

Garbage pickup rules for residents within the city limits of DeFuniak Springs, Florida

Trash/Garbage (paper goods, food and beverage containers, biodegradable food waste, small electronic items and small kitchen appliances such as toasters and toaster ovens):

  1. Roll-out needs to be placed three (3) feet from edge of street before 7am on the day of collection.
  2. Remove roll-out from the street to your side or rear yard by the end of the day of collection.
  3. Place all excess garbage which will not fit into the roll-out in plastic bags and place next to the roll-out.  All trash must be bagged or it will not be picked up.
  4. Roll-outs will remain the property of the City and repaired/replaced as needed.
  5. Any damage caused by the homeowner or business will be the responsibility of the homeowner or business.

White Goods/Household Junk (refrigerators, washers and dryers, dishwashers, freezers, furniture, tvs/monitors, bed frames, tile, glass, mirrors, windows and doors):  

  1.  Place three (3) feet from edge of street before 7am on the day of collection.
  2. The City uses a different truck to pick up this type waste, so pick up may not take place on the same day as your normal garbage pickup day.

Yard Debris/Waste (branches, leaves, roots/stumps):

  1. Collected on the same day of garbage pick-up.
  2. Limited to three (3) cubic yards per week.
  3. Trees and branches need to be cut into 3 to 4 foot sections, 6 inches in diameter.
  4. Leaves should be bagged or put in separate pile.

Medical Waste (needles, medical supplies with direct contact with blood and other bodily fluids):

  1. The City of DeFuniak Springs does not collect this material.
  2. Contact the Walton County Landfill for disposal information at (850) 892-8180. Open Tues-Fri 6:30am - 4:30pm; Sat 7am - 1pm; Sun CLOSED.

Construction Material (demolition debris, batteries, tires, paint, solvents, oil):

  1. The City of DeFuniak Springs does not collect this material.
  2. Contact the Walton County Landfill for disposal information at (850) 892-8180. Open Tues-Fri 6:30am - 4:30pm; Sat 7am - 1pm; Sun CLOSED.
