Community Classes
The City of DeFuniak Springs Fire Department will host a 5-Day Live Fire Training Instructor (LFTI) course for firefighters and instructors. Class is limited to 10 students. Sign up soon!
The LFTI curriculum is designed to deliver a comprehensive 5-day live fire training program, within a safe and controlled environment, in accordance with NFPA 1402, NFPA 1403, and NFPA 1500. Both lecture and practical will be used allowing participants to apply knowledge of the above standards to training activities. Firefighter I & II and Instructor I are the pre-requisites to attend the course.

When you take a first aid class from the American Red Cross, you’ll gain the skills you need to help others during times of crisis. Designed to last just a few short hours, our first aid classes can help you recognize the signs that someone needs help and administer the right type of care. In addition to offering certification courses for the public and medical professionals alike, we also offer abbreviated recertification courses in first aid. Emergency Medical Response is a dynamic 56-hour course featuring lecture, video, simulated emergency situations, discussion and hands-on skill practice based on the national EMS curriculum requirements and educational standards. While Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) does not provide state licensure or certification as an Emergency Medical Responder, this course is ideal for high school and college-aged students to receive training similar to the training EMS professionals receive as they look to enter careers in healthcare, public safety, or law enforcement. This training is also ideal for your on-campus security and/or emergency response teams! To register for this class, proceed to the Sign up tab and select the class you wish to enroll in.
CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer & Healthcare Providers
Provide the care your patients need, when they need it. It’s what you do every day. But just as protocols for drug interventions change – so do methods for non-invasive treatments, like CPR. As part of our commitment to support safer communities, and support you in all that you do, we offer CPR for healthcare providers.
Through these courses we’re able to keep you up to date on the latest techniques, so you can maintain certifications and deliver the best possible care to your patients. Classes and information currently available to healthcare providers include:
- CPR (one- and two-rescuer)
- AED
- Primary Assessment
- Ventilations (including BVM)
- Choking (conscious and unconscious)

The City of DeFuniak Springs Fire Department presents a fire extinguisher program to businesses, civic organizations and community subdivisions to promote the correct usage and maintenance of a fire extinguisher.
This program covers:
- fire behavior
- types of fires
- types of extinguishers
- fire extinguisher operations
Live fire training can be performed outside using actual fire extinguishers. Sign up for this valuable training to empower your community or business in case of a fire.
