The City of DeFuniak Springs, Florida is governed by a six-member city council:
- five members with voting powers and
- the mayor who leads the meetings and only votes when there is a tie.
Council decisions are carried out by the city manager and assistant city manager who lead all departments to carry out the decisions of the council and day-to-day operations of the government. Boards and committees are created by the council to oversee or provide advice to council on various aspects of city government operations. All citizens are welcome and encouraged to attend all city council, board, and committee meetings which operate in compliance with Florida's Sunshine laws.
Our city also orchestrates and hosts three major events a year for the enjoyment and/or educational benefit of our residents and visitors:
- Marvel of Flight,
- LakeFest and
- City Government Week.
