[ARCHIVED] CONCRETE TRUCK TURNS OVER AFTER STRIKING UTILITY LINE

DeFuniak Springs Police investigated a crash Monday evening on Shoemaker Drive near Lakeview Drive. Officers responded at approximately 6 PM when a Crestview Ready Mix Concrete Company truck struck an aerial cable. The semi-truck hauler driven by 32 year old Brandon Lee Thompson of Jay, FL was leaving a construction site after delivering multiple yards of concrete. The collision with the aerial line was caused by the elevated charging hopper grabbing and then dragging the cable/line. The line began stretching and eventually snapped a pole that was supporting it and bringing down multiple lines. The collision caused the concrete mixer to become entangled in the cable and eventually overturn.

Thompson was able to escape without injury and was not charged in the accident. Gulf Power responded and set a new pole for the lines to be reinstalled. Most of the utility services were restored before 9 PM.
