DeFuniak Springs Police are encouraging drivers and passengers to buckle up and save lives.

Officers will be stepping up enforcement for the spring “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign which began on March 1st and will end March 14th, 2016. Officers will be concentrating on traffic violations from seat belts to loud tail pipes.

Drivers who fail to wear their seat belts could get pulled over and face a $111 fine. Violation of the child passenger safety seat law could end in a $161 fine.

Complaints have come in and DeFuniak Springs Police are enforcing the “Muffler law.” If a driver modifies their exhaust system to bypass pollution or noise control devices, it is a violation of Florida law. Drivers may receive unwanted attention for their loud tail pipe - an Officer with a citation book. A violation may result in a $91 fine.

“We encourage our citizens to drive safe and comply with the law for everyone’s benefit,” said Chief Mark Weeks. “It won’t just save you a fine. It may even save yours or your child’s life.”
