[ARCHIVED] RIDER AIRLIFTED AFTER MOTORCYCLE STRUCK BY TRUCK

DeFuniak Springs Police responded to a traffic crash involving a motorcycle on Thursday evening around 9:30 p.m. Initial investigation showed that a pickup truck driven by 50 year old Enrique Hernandez Espino of Clearwater was crossing U.S. 331 South from an I-10 off ramp. A motorcycle, driven by 19 year old Anthony Vester Kirkland, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 331 South and was unable to stop before colliding with the truck. DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and Walton Fire Rescue responded and treated the injured motorcyclist. Kirkland was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and suffered a serious head injury after being ejected from the motorcycle. He was airlifted to Bay Medical Center in Panama City where he was listed in critical condition. Detectives are still investigating the crash as of this release.
