[ARCHIVED] SIXTY-SIX YEAR OLD MAN FOUND WITH GUN SHOT WOUNDS

DeFuniak Springs Police responded to S. 13th Street at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday after relatives say they could not reach a 66 year old man.  Officers had to make forced entry into the home in order to check his welfare.  Once inside, the man was located sitting in a chair with a .38 caliber revolver located in his lap.  Detectives and the Medical Examiner’s Office responded and examined the victim, who appeared to have a gun-shot wound to his head and abdomen that were consistent with being made by the revolver.  Preliminary testing also revealed the presence of gun-shot residue on the man’s hands which may indicate that he fired the pistol.  Detectives and Investigators believe the gun-shot wounds were self-inflicted and the case is being treated as a suicide, although the investigation is continuing.  Anyone with information is requested to contact Detective Austin Arnold at 850-892-8513.  Callers may also remain anonymous by calling 850-910-8477(TIPS).
