A driver, who was reported to DeFuniak Springs Police for
driving recklessly on U.S. Highway 331 South around 7 a.m. Sunday morning, was
arrested after a traffic stop. 38 year
old David Allan Anderson of Florala, AL was driving a red Hyundai SUV on U.S.
Highway 331 S. when he pulled into WalMart.
An Officer had caught up to Anderson as he exited his parked vehicle,
but stopped to assist a Citizen before making contact. Officers responded to investigate Anderson, who
had parked in a handicapped parking space, but was not displaying a placard. Officers observed Anderson leaving WalMart
and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
A Walton County Sheriff’s Deputy and DeFuniak Springs Officers questioned
Anderson about suspicious items in plain view in the vehicle, including a large
guitar case. A consensual search revealed
approximately $5,000 in cash, multiple baggies of methamphetamine, multiple
baggies of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Anderson was arrested and booked into the Walton County Jail on drug
related charges which included Trafficking in Methamphetamine and Possession of
Marijuana with Intent to Distribute. His vehicle and the cash will be forfeited
as contraband and used to help fight crime in the future. “I am
very proud of my Officers for continuing to keep dangerous drugs out of our
community. We will continue to be
proactive in keeping our streets safe for our families”, said Chief Mark Weeks.
