[ARCHIVED] DEFUNIAK SPRINGS POLICE INVESTIGATES HIT AND RUN

On April 18th, 2011 a citizen approached a DeFuniak Springs Officer in the agency parking lot and advised him that a lady driving a Lincoln had something wrong with her and about killed him. He provided the officer the characters displayed on the tag and pointed to the east. The officer took to the street in attempt to locate.

The search of the Lincoln Town Car ended just outside of the city limits when officers and members from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office made contact. It was then found that the Lincoln Town Car had struck other vehicles and a speed limit sign prior to officer’s contact. The driver of the Lincoln Town Car was identified as Anne M. Marx who was transported to Healthmark Regional Medical Center for non life threatening injuries.

During about the same time other officers from the Defuniak Springs Police responded to a hit and run traffic crash at the intersection of State Road 10 (U.S. Highway 90) and State Road 83 (9th Street).

Ashton L. Campbell who was driving a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo and passenger Britney Peterson who was located in the front right seat began to Slow/Stop for the traffic light, when the traffic light turned green their vehicle was struck from the rear by a white Lincoln Town Car, which fled the scene. Peterson was also transported to Healthmark Regional Medical Center for non life threatening injuries.

Investigation did determine that the Lincoln Town Car driven by Anne M. Marx was the vehicle in question in both incidents. The investigation is still ongoing; however there is reason to believe that a controlled substance could be a factor in the crash.
