[ARCHIVED] BICYCLIST INJURED WHILE CROSSING U.S. 331 SOUTH

DeFuniak Springs Police and DeFuniak Springs Fire responded to the intersection of U.S. Highway 331 S. and Live Oak Avenue at approximately 4:15 p.m. Monday in reference to a traffic crash.  First responders arrived to find 27 year old Craig Wilson on the ground near his bicycle.  According to witnesses, Wilson was riding his bike east in the pedestrian crosswalk and attempting to cross U.S. Highway 331 S. when a 4 door sedan, driven by 60 year old Richard Wyman, struck Wilson in the outside lane.  Wilson was knocked to the ground and sustained injuries.  Wilson was transported to Healthmark Regional Medical Center by Walton Fire Rescue and was still undergoing medical treatment as of this release.  No other injuries were reported.  Wyman’s vehicle sustained approximately $1,000 in damage, but was able to be driven from the scene.  Based on the testimony of witnesses and the driver, Wilson was facing a “DO NOT CROSS” illuminated sign and Wyman had a green traffic light and at the time of the crash.  Wilson was found to be at fault in the accident, however, no charges have been made.
