Public Hearing Notice

Notice is hereby given that the City of DeFuniak Springs Planning Board (hereafter called “Board”) will conduct a public hearing for a Use Exception Allowed Upon Special Approval on Monday, October 1, 2018, at City Hall in DeFuniak Springs, Florida at 5:30 p.m.  

An overview of the request includes:

Petitioner:  First Christian Academy School Board

Property Owner:  First Baptist Church, Inc., of DeFuniak Springs 

Type of Use Requested:  Install Playground for Existing Church School an R-1 (Single-Family Residential) Zoning District       

Physical Location:  212 South 11th Street (SE Corner of South 11th Street & East Orange Avenue)

Parcel Identification #:  25-3N-19-19070-000-6140

Legal Description:  Lots 614 & 615, Town of DeFuniak

Prior to the hearing, comments or questions may be directed to the attention of planning department personnel by phone at (850) 892-8571, Ext. 116., or in person at 35 US Hwy 90 West, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433. Please refer to file number 2018-SEU-02.  

Please note: this is the only public hearing on this application. Anyone with interest in this application is encouraged to attend. 

The Board values public input because citizens often have unique knowledge of safety hazards, traffic, drainage issues, and other neighborhood conditions that are important for the Board to understand in making their land use decisions. Therefore, at the conclusion of the applicant’s presentation, the Chair will open the hearing to the public and ask if anyone wishes to speak about the application.

All persons wishing to speak at the hearing, including the applicant, must first be recognized by the Chair. After being recognized, each speaker should approach the podium, speak into the microphone and give her/his name and address for the public record. Since public hearings are for the benefit of the Board to hear public input, speakers should address the Board and not the audience. After the Chair closes the public hearing, the Board may deliberate prior to making a decision, which could be to forward the application to City Council recommending approval, recommending approval with conditions, or recommending denial. (If necessary, the Board could continue the application to a later date.)

When this application is presented to City Council, Council may choose to hear public comment, but since their meeting is not a public hearing for this type of application, notice of the meeting date will not be advertised.  If you would like to know the date of Council’s meeting, you may contact planning department personnel.
