City Reminds Candidates of Political Sign Rules on Right-of-Ways

Political Signs MEDIA RELEASE Feb 21 2019

DeFuniak Springs, FL…Nine candidates have pre-qualified to run for three city council seats and City Marshal for the April 9, 2019 election.  City officials wish to remind all candidates and their supporters that all political signs may only be placed on private property.  Also, state law requires that property owners call 8-1-1 to make sure that signs do not damage buried water, gas or any utility lines when placed into the ground.

“This is a good time to remind all citizens that this same rule applies to the placement of any sign within city limits,” says DeFuniak Springs City Manager Mell Smigielski. “This includes, but not limited to yard sale, special event, real estate and other signs placed in public right-of-ways,” he says.

The DeFuniak Springs code enforcement officer is designated by the City to remove all signs in public right-of-ways and will store collected signs for up to 30 days. Owners can retrieve their signs by contacting DeFuniak Springs Code Enforcement Officer Bradley Stafford at (850) 892-8571, ext. 118 or by emailing
