[ARCHIVED] PROPERTY RECOVERED IN STORAGE UNIT BURGLARY

STORAGE

On March 6, 2019, DeFuniak Springs Police Officers responded to a local storage building in reference to a burglary. According to the complainant, they arrived to find the storage unit unsecured. Upon contacting a family member, they realized that the storage unit had been burglarized and multiple items of value were stolen. Officers and Detectives investigated the theft and discovered that the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) had located one of the stolen items. Further investigation revealed that many of the stolen items were located in a storage unit in Ft. Walton Beach. OCSO investigators were able to serve a search warrant on the storage unit and recovered tools, gun safes, automotive parts, a generator, air compressor, and miscellaneous outdoor equipment, along other unrelated items. The goods were all identified by the owner as belonging to them. A Detective with DeFuniak Springs Police traveled to Ft. Walton Beach and recovered the stolen items. The items are currently being stored in property and evidence until they can be returned to the owner. “We want to thank our citizens and investigators with OCSO for assisting in recovering the items in this case,” said Chief Mark Weeks. “We have persons of interest that are being sought and justice will be served.” More information will be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
