Officers with DeFuniak Springs Police were recently called to a residence in reference to suspicious activity in the complainant’s shed. Officers checked the shed and found a male subject inside. A strong odor of marijuana was detected and 24 year old David Gene Lewis admitted to having a small amount of cannabis. Further investigation revealed that Lewis possessed methamphetamine as well. Lewis was arrested and charged with a Felony for Possession of Methamphetamine and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana. Lewis was booked into the Walton County Jail where he is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.
In a separate incident, a female juvenile was stopped for traveling almost 20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. A traffic stop revealed the juvenile driver had a misdemeanor amount of marijuana under a seat. The driver was issued a Notice to Appear for the Marijuana and a citation for speed. “We take a proactive approach to keeping drugs off our streets and will continue to be vigilant,” said Chief Mark Weeks.
