On the late night hours of May 29th, 2011, officers from the DeFuniak Springs Police responded to a Domestic Violence Battery call on 481 East Sloss Avenue.
When officers arrived they found Dorrene Scott with obvious markings that would suggest a victim of battery. Scott also stated that the person responsible for her injuries was Ozell McNabb. A canvass of the area for McNabb was unsuccessful. The Walton County Emergency Medical Staff (EMS) was also notified, at which time they transported Scott to a local medical center for further evaluation.
On the afternoon of May 31st, 2011, a patrol unit observed McNabb on foot in the area of Park Street and Dorsey Avenue. When the officer attempted contact with McNabb, he darted out of site. The officer proceeded to the area that McNabb appeared to be heading. Once he arrived at this location he observed McNabb standing around the corner of a building. The officer exited his patrol unit and McNabb began to flee once again. The officer was able to give chase. The chase concluded with the officer deploying a Taser to gain control of McNabb.
The Walton County Emergency Medical Staff (EMS) was requested to respond and in return they transported McNabb to Healthmark Regional Medical Center for precautionary reasons only. A short time later McNabb was transported to the Walton County Correction Facility and booked on the listed charges of Battery (Domestic), Resisting Officer Without Violence, Possession of Cannabis and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
