[ARCHIVED] BEWARE OF PHONE SCAMMERS

Scammers are keeping up their tactics of trying to steal your hard earned money. In a recently reported incident, scammers sent a text message claiming to represent “Quick Support, LLC” and advising the citizen was entitled to a refund. Instructions in the text advised the citizen to call “(719)782-8258” in order to claim their refund. Calling the number plays a rejection message and disconnects. If you receive an unsolicited text message requesting you to call a number – Don’t do it! It most likely is a scam and by calling or texting the number back may result in you receiving more scam calls. Additionally, scammers may attempt to capture your voice to use in “slamming” where the phone company adds charges you didn’t authorize to your bill. “If in doubt, call us,” said Chief James Hurley. “We will be happy to check on the legitimacy of the caller so you don’t become a victim.”
