PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
TO CONSIDER ORDINANCES ASSOCIATED TO A CHANGE TO THE FUTURE LAND USE MAP
AND A CHANGE TO THE ZONING MAP OF THE CITY OF DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, FLORIDA
The DeFuniak Springs City Council will conduct public hearings to consider requests for ordinances to amend the City of DeFuniak Springs Future Land Use Map (small scale amendment) and to amend the City of DeFuniak Springs zoning map (rezoning), more particularly described as follows:
City Council will conduct the first public hearing on Monday, July 8, 2019, at 6:00 PM CST, or as soon thereafter as possible, and will conduct the second public hearing on Monday, July 22, 2019, at 6:00 PM CST, or as soon thereafter as possible. Both hearings will be conducted at regular City Council Meetings, held at the DeFuniak Springs Community Center, located at 361 North 10th Street, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433. All interested parties are encouraged to attend; those in attendance shall have the right to submit oral and written comments for City Council’s consideration.
The owner of the subject property is requesting approval of applications to:
- Amend the future land use of the property from Industrial to Medium Density Residential, and
- Rezone the property from Light Industrial (L-I) & Commercial General (C-2) to Multifamily Residential (R-2).
The subject property is a 4.47+/- acre parcel of land located at 1575 North 9th Street (aka Hwy 83). A copy of the location map is available upon request. The property is identified as Walton County parcel number 23-3N-19-19000-003-0093.

The files for these requests are available for public inspection at the Planning Department, located in the DeFuniak Springs City Hall Annex, 35 US Highway 90 West, DeFuniak Springs, FL, during regular office hours. In accordance with Section 286.26, Florida Statutes, “Accessibility of public meetings to the physically handicapped, whenever any board or commissioner of any state agency or authority, or of any agency or authority of any county, municipal corporation, or other political subdivision that has scheduled a meeting at which official acts are to be taken, receives at least 48 hours prior to the meeting, a written request by a physically handicapped person to attend the meeting, directed to the chairperson or director of such board, commission, agency, or authority, such chairperson or director shall provide a manner by which such person may attend the meeting at its scheduled site or reschedule the meeting to a site which would be accessible to such person.”
In accordance with Section 286.0105, Florida Statutes, “Notices of meetings and hearings must advise that a record is required to appeal, all persons are advised that, if a person decides to appeal any decision made by the board, agency, or commission with respect to any matter considered at such meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.” Appeals of City Council decisions are heard by the Circuit Court of Walton County.
