The DeFuniak Springs Police was invited to speak to an audience at a local park known as “WEE CARE PARK” on Saturday June 4th, 2011, about gun safety.
Earley Saturday morning members from the DeFuniak Springs Police set up the Agency “Mobile Command Unit” inside the Park and handed out educational material such as, coloring books for the children, and brochures for the adults concerning gun safety as they arrived.
The Anchor Club performed a puppet show educating the audience on many different dangers that they are exposed to in their everyday lives. The puppets also talked to the audience about gun safety. The puppets then introduce the DeFuniak Springs Police and their Mascot Eddie the Eagle. The officer picked up where the puppets left off stressing the danger of guns when they end up in the wrong hands, and what children should do if they should encounter one.
The DeFuniak Springs Police would like to say thanks to all the spectators that came out and made this wonderful event possible. Special thanks go out to the President Devero Bogart and Advisor Johnie Kay Ealum of the Anchor Club for the hard work and allowing the agency to partner with them to make our community a better and safe place to live.
