DeFuniak Springs Police Officers were recently equipped with Narcan nasal injectors, a drug used to counter the deadly effects of opioid overdose. The naloxone nasal injectors administer the drug that prevents opioids from depressing breathing and other vital signs. Officers have been trained to administer the drug in the event they become exposed to the dangerous drugs. Fortunately, naloxone will not adversely affect them if the drugs are not opioids such as Heroin or Oxycodone. “This is just one extra tool Officers will have to save their life,” said Chief James Hurley. “We run the risk every day of being exposed to dangerous drugs or synthetic opioids such as Fentanyl. The last thing I want to see is an Officer harmed by accidental exposure.” The Naloxone nasal injectors were obtained through a HEROS grant administered by the Florida Department of Health.
