An early evening single vehicle crash was responsible for collapsing power lines and causing power to be out for many DeFuniak Springs residents. A truck was traveling west on Walton Road near Twin Lakes Drive when the driver lost control and plowed into a roadside power pole, causing the truck to roll over. A passing motorist reported the crash and stopped to assist the one and only occupant, 22 year old Juan Miguel-Felix of Santa Rosa Beach. DeFuniak Springs Police, Walton Fire Rescue, and DeFuniak Springs Fire responded to the crash. Miguel-Felix was determined to have several visible injuries and also smelled of alcoholic beverages. He was transported to Healthmark Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries. Based on the investigation, Miguel-Felix was arrested and transported to the Walton County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence and Driving with No Valid Driver’s License. Due to live power lines blocking the roadway, Walton Road from Lakeview Drive to U.S. Highway 331 N. had to be closed at approximately 6p.m. As of this release, Walton Road was still partially closed as power crews from CHELCO were working to restore the power pole and lines. CHELCO Technicians were estimating Walton Road could be closed as late as 5 a.m. Monday.
