[ARCHIVED] PEDESTRIAN SERIOUSLY INJURED WHILE CROSSING HWY 90

Crash Scene

Officers, along with DeFuniak Springs Fire, Walton Fire Rescue, and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to U.S. Highway 90 West near 20th Street at approximately 5:45 p.m. Friday evening after a pedestrian was struck by an SUV.  An Officer, who was nearby investigating an unrelated incident, stated he observed a pedestrian cross U.S. Highway 90 in front of the SUV and was struck.  The crash sent the female into the air, landing on the pavement.  The driver of the SUV immediately stopped and the driver exited to check on the woman.  Officers arrived and began rendering aid until EMS could get on scene.  The pedestrian was taken to Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center with life threatening injuries.  As of this release, the female was being listed in critical condition.  The east bound lanes of U.S. Highway 90 from 21st Street to 20th Street were closed for several hours.  The Florida Highway Patrol is assisting in the continuing investigation.  “Our hearts go out to the driver and this pedestrian in hopes that she makes a speedy recovery,” said Chief James Hurley.
