The City of DeFuniak Springs is accepting applications for grant funding from local 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations that carry out a public purpose. Eligible organizations include those which orchestrate programs or events promoting the City as a destination for business, industry, residency, culture and recreation; keep citizens of the City safe and healthy; promote the cultural heritage and quality of life for citizens; and encourage economic development of the community.
The City is accepting applications for funding in preparation of the 2020-2021 budget. City leaders will review applications and determine whether the City will have the funds available to award. Organizations may also apply for free use of City facilities (aka facility fee waivers) in addition to funding.
“This budget year will be more difficult than normal,” says City Manager Mell Smigielski “due to the unknown damage to our finances related to the COVID-19 virus. Last year’s average amount awarded was $3,728. We don’t know if we can make such financial awards this coming year, but we must receive applications to determine organizations’ needs and later see in the coming weeks and months if funding is available.”
Applications and submission details are available on the City’s website at www.defuniaksprings.net in the “Community” section of the site. Those unable to access the online information may acquire a hard copy of the application by calling the city manager’s office at (850) 892-8500 to arrange for a pick-up at City Hall. Applications and supporting documents are due no later than June 15, 2020, 5pm CST to City Manager Mell Smigielski, City Hall, 71 US Highway 90 West, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433. Questions regarding the application process may be directed to City Manager Mell Smigielski at (850) 892-8500 or by emailing him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
