[ARCHIVED] Power Failures Present Traffic Control Problems at Traffic Lights

Hurricane season is in full effect and so is the power outages associated with the inclement weather. DeFuniak Springs Police has experienced traffic control challenges at the 10 Traffic Lights located within the City. When the power is out, traffic lights go out too! It is important for drivers to know the law concerning inoperable traffic lights so that wrecks can be avoided. According to Florida State Statute 316.1235, drivers are required to treat inoperable traffic lights the same as a stop sign. All vehicles are required to stop unless the light is functioning properly.

The Office of the City Marshal, DeFuniak Springs Police urges residents and visitors to drive cautiously when inclement weather is present and to stop at all traffic signals that are not working. Your safety is our main concern!
