On Friday night September 2nd, 2011 members from the DeFuniak Springs Police performed a Comprehensive Roadside Safety Check (DUI Checkpoint).
Members from the Florida Department of Transportation responded and set up the cones and signs and remained onsite to provide a safe work site for the officers as well as for the motorists that were traveling into the check point.
The main purpose of this safety check was to reduce or prevent tragedies related to impaired driving during the Labor Day weekend.
DeFuniak Springs Police, along with the Florida Highway Patrol, and Florida Department of Transportation participated in this event to promote safety on our roadways. Two hundred and eighty-two (282) vehicles were checked, resulting in 2 arrests for DUI and 35 other violations.
Due to the partnership with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) the results were commendable.
