Over the past few weeks the DeFuniak Springs Police have received complaints and concerns from business owners in reference to bicyclist and skateboarders on the sidewalks in front of their businesses.
This has become a potential danger to the citizens, as well as the riders when someone is entering or exciting the businesses. One of the many dangers of someone getting injured is a door of a business being opened at the same time a rider is passing.
DeFuniak Springs Police would like to take the opportunity and remind our citizens and the public of our City Ordinance that prohibits such activity.
DeFuniak Springs Police would also like to encourage the business owners as well as the citizens to call and report such activity.
The operation of bicycles and skateboards are prohibited on sidewalks in what is referred to as City Ordinance in The DeFuniak Springs Municipal Code-22-5 and Code 22-25. As a citizen these Codes are available to you upon your request. DeFuniak Springs Police encourages our citizens to become familiar with all the City Codes (City Ordinances).
The Violators of these ordinances are subject to Arrest or a Notice to Appear in county court for a misdemeanor charge.
