DEFUNIAK SPRINGS POLICE RESPOND TO ARMED AND DANGEROUS MAN
Members from the DeFuniak Springs Police responded to a local Attorney’s Office in reference to a suspect armed with what appeared to be a shotgun.
Caller advised police that the suspect entered the office with what was believed to be a shotgun and was acting confused, and strangely talking to himself. He exited the office and left the area in a silver older car.
DeFuniak Springs Police responded to this threat quickly and secured the scene. For precautionary reasons, the Walton County Court House located in close vicinity, was notified by police personnel of the possible threat in the area.
During the investigation officers observed the suspect in his vehicle traveling east on U.S. Highway 90. A felony traffic stop was performed on the vehicle prior to it exiting the city limits. Members from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
The suspect was identified as Herbert Seymour Williams 68 years old of DeFuniak Springs. A weapon was retrieved by officers, which turned out to be an air rifle. Williams was taken into protective custody for further investigation.
DeFuniak Springs Police would like to remind the public, no one should ever assume a weapon isn’t dangerous on its appearance alone. Remove yourself from danger if possible, and report it to the authorities.
