On March 20th, 2012 DeFuniak Springs Police responded to a crash at US Highway 90 West and Shoemaker Drive.
Linda Wood Peters of DeFuniak Springs was operating a 2007 Toyota Sedan and was traveling west on US. Highway 90. She stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of Shoemaker Drive. Timothy Lynn Rice from Crestview was operating a 2005 Jeep SUV, also traveling west, and failed to stop before colliding into the rear of Peters. The Collision caused the Jeep to spin clockwise and overturn.
Officers worked quickly to clear the lanes of travel. Eastbound traffic was detoured onto Shoemaker Drive and westbound traffic was detoured onto 20th Street from US Highway 90.
Rice was determined to be at fault for operating a motor vehicle in a careless /negligent manner, he therefore was charged for careless driving.
Both Peters and Rice were transported by Walton County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for what was believed to be non life threatening injuries.
