[ARCHIVED] DEFUNIAK SPRINGS POLICE IS INVESTIGATING MURDER / SUICIDE

On May 12, 2012 at approximately 3:33 p.m. officers from the DeFuniak Springs Police responded to 321 Quebec Avenue in reference to a 9-1-1 call of two people being shot.

Officers from the DeFuniak Springs Police arrived on scene within minutes to find two victims with gunshot wounds. DeFuniak Springs Fire Department, Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Walton County Fire and Rescue arrived on scene shortly afterwards to assist.

Both were pronounced deceased on scene. They were later identified as Cleveland Gettis 33 years of age and Saleisha Richardson 28 years of age both from DeFuniak Springs Florida.

At the time of this release there was adequate evidence to indicate that Gettis shot and killed Richardson, and then turn the undisclosed firearm on himself and took his own life. It was also determined that they were cohabitates and were currently residing at 321 Quebec Avenue.

A member from the First Judicial Medical Examiner’s Office was also on scene assisting in the investigation. No other information is being released at this time.
