“In the last few weeks we have seen a trend in property crimes in our community”, said Chief Mark A. Weeks.
The purpose of the “DEFUNIAK SPRINGS POLICE ALERT ADVISORY” is to warn people of an increase in crimes such as thefts from vehicles, sheds and burglaries.
DeFuniak Springs Police officials are asking that people not keep valuables inside unattended vehicles and to keep garage and shed doors shut and locked at night and during the day. The reported incidents indicate that criminals appear to be targeting easy accessed items.
Unfortunately, during the Holiday Season, these types of crimes seem to increase especially with the ongoing economy struggle. Officials are also asking that people apply the same principles to their homes.
The residential burglaries have been vacant houses; therefore the DeFuniak Springs Police are reminding everyone that all doors or possible entry points should be kept locked.
If you notice something suspicious you should call the non-emergency dispatch phone number (850) 892-8513 and to remain anonymous you can leave a message on DeFuniak Springs Police TIP LINE 850-910-TIPS (8477).
