On Wednesday March 27, 2013 DeFuniak Springs Police recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested the suspect in connection to the crime. Jerome Cochran II, 24 years of age of Fort Davis, Alabama was charged with grand theft of a 2008 Buick La Sabre, resisting law enforcement without violence, possession of crack cocaine, and possession of marijuana after police conducted a traffic stop of Cochran at a local convenience store.
Members from the DeFuniak Springs Police located the vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Walton County days earlier, parked at a residence inside the city limits. Officers conducted surveillance of the vehicle until they observed Cochran exit the residence, enter the vehicle, and drive off. When observing this, officers initiated a traffic stop. Cochran complied and stopped, however when the vehicle stopped he exited and fled on foot. Officers pursued him approximately four blocks and were able to apprehend him. Cochran was found to be in felony possession of crack cocaine and a misdemeanor amount of marijuana. Officers also found that Cochran was in possession of $1,170 in cash.
Cochran is currently out on bond for charges of felony possession and/or intent to distribute cocaine and was awaiting a court date on these charges. DeFuniak Springs Police arrested Cochran and transported him to the Walton County Jail where he is being held without bond.
