On August 20, 2013 at approximately 4:38 a.m. a DeFuniak Springs Police Officer observed a silver 4 door Lincoln Town Car failing to maintain a single lane of travel. During the observation a computer records check of the license plate revealed the registration was expired.
The officer activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. The driver immediately stopped and bailed from the vehicle fleeing on foot. The officer gave chase ordering the suspect to stop running, or he would deploy his Taser. The suspect failed to comply with the officer’s request. As they entered a wooded area the officer fired his Taser but missed the suspect. The chase finally came to an end, when the officer fired his Taser the second time making contact. The suspect was taking into custody without further incident.
Further investigations revealed the suspect, identified as Daniel E. Brown, 26 years of age of DeFuniak Springs, was driving while license suspended or revoked. An inventory of the vehicle also revealed items consistent with manufacturing methamphetamine.
Brown was transported to the Walton County Correction Facility to answer to the charges of; driving while license suspended / revoked, resisting officer without violence and unlawful possession of listed chemicals.
