[ARCHIVED] DEFUNIAK SPRINGS POLICE NOMINATED FOR U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AWARD

The Office of the City Marshal, DeFuniak Springs Police is proud to announce their agency has been nationally recognized by the COPS division of the United States Department of Justice. Chief Mark A. Weeks, City Marshal and the members of the DeFuniak Springs Police received nominations for the prestigious and honorable L. Anthony Sutin Civic Imagination Award. This award acknowledges police agencies and community members who display civic leadership through volunteer collaborative partnerships that results in positive safety outcomes. Marcene F. Kreifels, MD, a local physician, also received similar recognition.

On February 28th, 2013, the City of DeFuniak Springs Police and Dr. Kreifels hosted the first educational law enforcement seminar in DeFuniak Springs at the local community center. Law enforcement officers, attorneys, and physicians from eleven counties of the Florida Panhandle discussed Florida’s prescription narcotic epidemic. Chief Weeks stated “the seminar was symbolic of our efforts to reduce prescription narcotic related deaths in the State of Florida”.

As Chief Weeks remains committed to involve community members in innovative and creative ways to protect, preserve, and to strengthen our community, it is hopeful other projects will be designed and implemented to accommodate the needs of DeFuniak Springs and its surrounding areas.

Chief Weeks stated “I am very proud of our officers for their hard work, integrity, and bravery. I am also proud of my community members, such as Dr. Kreifels, for her commitment and dedication to patient safety.
