[ARCHIVED] PHONE SCAMMERS ARE STILL AROUND

DeFuniak Springs Police received a report this morning from a senior citizen of another phone scam. The scammer reportedly contacted them by phone and requested money on behalf of the DeFuniak Springs Police and mentioned “Policemen’s Fund.” The complainant remembered seeing a public service announcement that DeFuniak Springs Police do not solicit money in this manner and started asking the scammer questions. The scammer disconnected the line. Fortunately, the senior citizen is not out any money and no personal information was given. This call showed up as being made from 386-333-6386, but many other numbers may be used. DeFuniak Springs Police are asking residents to not give out personal or financial information unless the recipient is known and trusted. Any suspicious calls are encouraged to be reported by calling 892-8513 or your local law enforcement agency.
